According to Garver, China\u0026rsquo;s India policy is mainly twofold\u0026mdash;invitation to cooperate and partner with China, but with the threat of punishment if Indian policies become \u0026ldquo;too hostile\u0026rdquo; to China and its interests.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBut, under the circumstances, how significant is the Chinese shift? \u0026ldquo;It could be significant,\u0026rdquo; says Garver. He feels Beijing is increasingly becoming concerned with progressive \u0026ldquo;Islamisation of the Pakistan state\u0026rdquo; and the possible ill consequences of it for the entire region, including Xinjiang. \u0026ldquo;I doubt that Beijing will break with Islamabad. But it may seek to nudge the Pakistan army and the state in a more secular direction,\u0026rdquo; opines the emeritus professor.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\u003C\/blockquote\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EJohn Garver joined the Nunn School in 1985 as a professor in the Nunn School and specializes in China\u0026#39;s foreign relations. For many years, he served on the editorial boards of journals and has written several publications, including\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EChina\u0026rsquo;s Quest;\u0026nbsp; History of the Foreign Relations of\u0026nbsp; the People\u0026rsquo;s Republic of China\u003C\/em\u003E.
