In his spare time, Shashwat was president of the NSIT Quiz Club and enjoyed participating in quiz competitions in all over India.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Georgia Tech has a great academic reputation around the world,\u0026rdquo; Shashwat says.\u0026nbsp; \u0026ldquo;The cutting-edge and impressive research being done in the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/bioinformatics.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Bioinformatics Program\u003C\/a\u003E is what attracted me. Additionally, Georgia Tech is a premier institute for computer science, making it ideal for someone like me who wanted to work at the interface of biology and computer science.\u0026quot;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENagar is graduating with a \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/catalog.gatech.edu\/programs\/bioinformatics-ms\/\u0022\u003EMaster of Science in Bioinformatics\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat is the most important thing you learned at Georgia Tech?\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETo manage my time and effectively working in large groups.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech lived up to my expectations. The instructors, peer group, and level of rigor were as spectacular as I had hoped for.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat surprised you most at Georgia Tech? \u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EI was pleasantly surprised by how much individual attention professors were willing to give each student. One would not expect this at a school as big as Tech.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMy mentors and professors have been approachable and available throughout my time here. It really makes the graduate experience significantly better. I hope this continues for future students.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhich professor(s) or class(es) made a big impact on you?\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EProfessor \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/biosci.gatech.edu\/people\/king-jordan\u0022\u003EI. King Jordan\u003C\/a\u003E had the largest impact on me. He had been my mentor and principal investigator (PI) for the past three semesters, and I couldn\u0026rsquo;t have asked for anyone better. He has been patient with me when I was not at my best, has been a dynamic and responsive PI for all my research projects, and he has always tried to bring out the best in me.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EI am honored to have worked with him and hope to be able to continue working with him in the future.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat is your most vivid memory of Georgia Tech?\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe first finals week \u0026ndash; the immense pressure and the delight of midnight breakfast! It was a new experience for me and one that I will not forget.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat was the most valuable outcome of your participation in experiential learning activities?\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn summer 2017, I interned in the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.mayo.edu\/research\/departments-divisions\/department-health-sciences-research\/overview\u0022\u003EDepartment of Health Science Research at Mayo Clinic\u003C\/a\u003E. The experience was invaluable. It gave me a taste of what it is to be in the working world and a great opportunity to apply the skills I had developed over two semesters in the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/bioinformatics.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Bioinformatics Program\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat advice would you give to incoming graduate students at Georgia Tech?\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EStart managing your time from day 1. Procrastinating will land you in delayed submissions and a sink full of dirty dishes.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhere are you headed after graduation? How did your Georgia Tech education prepare you for this next step?\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EI plan on working with \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/abil.ihrc.com\/\u0022\u003EABiL\u003C\/a\u003E, a bioinformatics consulting firm starting next year. It will be a great way to apply all that I have learned in the Georgia Tech Bioinformatics Program.
