Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.\u0026rsquo;s iconic \u0026ldquo;I Have a Dream\u0026rdquo; speech and how far we have to go.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EThe free event will also feature GA Representative Park Conner,\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;the youngest and 1 of 3 openly gay lawmakers in Atlanta as well as\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EMary Hooks, the Co-director of Southerners on New Ground (SONG)\u003C\/strong\u003E, a liberation movement\u0026nbsp;for People of Color, immigrants, undocumented people, people with disabilities.\u0026nbsp; The event takes place at the First Congregational Church, and the symposium coincides with the Church\u0026rsquo;s 150th anniversary.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOn August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stood before a crowd of 250,000 people at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and declared that all Americans should be treated equally.\u0026nbsp; He went on to champion legislation that reduced both racial and economic disparities for Blacks and Whites alike.\u0026nbsp; But now, more than ever, the country\u0026rsquo;s economic and racial divides are incredibly pronounced. Recent years have seen the rise of activist groups and events like Black Lives Matter and the Women\u0026rsquo;s March. Yet, some of the most critical political issues like affordable housing, quality public education, and LGBTQ rights\u0026mdash;all concerns of disenfranchised groups\u0026mdash;still persist.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMeasuring the Dream\u0026rsquo;s panelists are a group of influential community leaders who have firsthand experience with the struggle for civil rights, past and present.\u0026nbsp; They will address a group of roughly 500 attendees on a variety of topics including equity in education, health, and criminal justice.
