Copies of his new book, Building Social Business: The New Kind\nof Capitalism that Serves Humanity\u2019s Most Pressing Needs, will be on sale\nstarting at 4 p.m. in the atrium outside LeCraw, and Yunus will be available to\nsign copies after his talk.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EHeld by the College of Management and the Institute for\nLeadership and Entrepreneurship, the weekly IMPACT series provides Georgia Tech\nstudents, alumni, and members of the Atlanta community a free opportunity to\nnetwork and learn from high-tech entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and\nnotable business leaders.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0022As we pursue a mission of \u0027doing good\u0027 and creating a\nmore just, caring and sustainable future, we welcome the visit of Dr.\nYunus,\u0022 says Professor Terry Blum, director of the Institute for\nLeadership and Entrepreneurship. \u0022His visit will further the integration\nof the Georgia Tech community\u0027s technological and business skills with our\nhumanitarian purpose.\u0022\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EYunus, an economist and banker in Bangladesh, and the\nGrameen Bank were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to\n\u201ccreate economic and social development from below\u201d through a delivery system\nto provide banking services for the rural poor.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Grameen Bank, which began as a research project by Yunus\nin 1976 to explore a credit delivery service system for the rural poor, has\nreversed conventional banking wisdom by focusing on women borrowers, extending loans\nonly to the very poorest borrowers, and dispensing of the requirement for\ncollateral. Today, more than 250 institutions in nearly 100 countries operate\nmicro-credit programs based on the Grameen Bank model.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EYunus has received national and international recognition\nfor his work, including the Bangladesh President\u2019s Award in 1978, Mother Teresa\nAward in 2006, and the Presidential Medal Of Freedom awarded by President Barak\nObama in 2009. He is the author of seven books, including Banker to the Poor and\nA World Without Poverty.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EInstrumental in establishing the Grameen Bank, Grameen\nAmerica and Grameen Foundation, Yunus also serves on the board of directors of\nthe United Nations Foundation.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ENOTE: Yunus\u0027 lecture is free and open to the public.
