Institute Diversity Vice President Archie Ervin Re-elected President of NADOHE

Institute Diversity Vice President Archie Ervin was recently re-elected as president of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE) for a second two-year term from 2018 to 2020. He is a founding member of NADOHE and has served continuously as either a board member and/or officer since its inception.

NADOHE is the largest professional association of higher education chief diversity officers with a membership of more than 700 professionals representing more than 250 colleges and universities.

“I am honored to serve as president of NADOHE for another two years,” said Ervin. “NADOHE must prepare the next generation of senior diversity professionals who will lead higher education toward inclusive excellence.”

To model inclusion in its membership and leadership ranks, NADOHE recently sponsored four international educational trips to Belize, Brazil, Cuba, and Ghana to explore the African diaspora. Additionally, funded by a donation from INSIGHT into Diversity, NADOHE awarded four $2,500 scholarships last month to diverse undergraduate students to encourage engagement in global learning opportunities.

As president of NADOHE, Ervin plans to address the following priorities over the next two years: Increasing membership to 1,000 individual and institutional members by 2020; increasing membership among liberal arts institutions, Hispanic-serving institutions, historically black colleges and universities, community colleges, and tribal-affiliated institutions; increasing regional chapters of NADOHE from 11 to 20 by 2020; and developing and implementing the 2019-2022 NADOHE Strategic Plan.

Under his leadership, Georgia Tech is a four-time recipient of the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award from INSIGHT into Diversity. Prior to Georgia Tech, Ervin served as the associate provost for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs and chief diversity officer for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
