{"60619":{"#nid":"60619","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Georgia Tech Leads Talks on Urban Sustainability","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EA renewed focus on urban sustainability and embracing nature in urban environments were central topics at the Ninth Annual International Urban Planning and Environment Association Symposium (UPE9) in Guangzhou City, China.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ENancey Green Leigh and Perry Yang, professors in Georgia Tech\u2019s School of City and Regional Planning, led the review committee and the organizing committee of UPE9, which was hosted at Sun-Yat-Sen University.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EExperts deliberated on rapid urbanization, the global recession and climate change, and outlined a guiding framework for research needs in these areas, including:\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003ERe-focusing on the impact of sustainable planning; and\napproaching challenges with a more specific, less broad matrix of social,\neconomic and environmental sustainability issues.\u003C\/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EEmbracing hybrid urban landscapes and using ecology to\nregenerate existing urban environments.
