  <title><![CDATA[Teacher Workshop: Intro to Scratch & Alice]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>The Institute for Computing Education (ICE) is proud to host an 
Introduction to Scratch and Alice workshop on Saturday, Sept 11, 2010 
from 8:00am - 4:30pm at Georgia Tech. The workshop will take place in 
the College of Computing, room 345 (<a title=" last edited 14 days ago by 
user-1121bmm.dsl.mindspring.com" href="http://coweb.cc.gatech.edu/ice-gt/343">Directions to the College of Computing 
Building</a>).  Teachers must attend the entire workshop and submit both
 a Scratch and Alice project for credit. All teachers must register at <a href="http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KNQVXWH">http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KNQVXWH</a>.
 Georgia public school teachers must also register at <a href="http://www.ctaern.org/">http://www.ctaern.org</a> 
for workshop CTAERN3079.</p><p>Teachers will build a 2D animation and a game in Scratch and 3D movies 
(animations) in Alice.  Teachers will use drag-and-drop programming.  
Both Scratch and Alice are free software.  Scratch is available from <a href="http://scratch.mit.edu/">http://scratch.mit.edu</a>
 and Alice from <a href="http://www.alice.org/">http://www.alice.org</a>.
  The workshop will explain how to cover introductory computing concepts
 such as: class, object, method, parameter, function, variable, 
iteration (looping), conditional execution, and event-driven execution. 
Each teacher will receive materials including slides, exercises, lesson 
plans, and grading rubrics. This material can be used in Technology, 
Computing in the Modern World, Beginning Programming, or AP CS A. </p><p>This workshop is free for Georgia teachers, and if you live &gt; 30 
miles from Georgia Tech we will pay for your hotel for Friday night (2 
teachers per room), Friday night dinner, and Sat breakfast. If you would
 prefer a private room you can pay 1/2 the hotel cost. We will cover 
parking for Georgia teachers who stay at the hotel and reimburse parking
 for Georgia teachers who do not stay at the hotel. We will pay for 
lunch for all teachers. Space is limited to 30.</p><p>Please bring a laptop if you have one, or notify us if you need to 
borrow a laptop.</p><p>Teachers will learn how to teach:</p>

</li></ul><p>Out-of-state teachers pay $140. Checks for $140.00 should be made out to
