Omar Asensio Awarded 40 for 40 Fellowship by the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management

Omar Isaac Asensio, an assistant professor in the Georgia Institute of Technology School of Public Policy, has been awarded the 40 for 40 Fellowship by the Association for Public Policy and Management (APPAM). This 2018-exclusive program provides funding for 40 outstanding early career research professionals to attend APPAM’s Fall Research Conference, which is a premier conference for attracting high-quality work on a wide variety of current and emerging policy and management issues.

Asensio joined the faculty at the School of Public Policy in 2017, and has already received recognition for his teaching and scholarship. He was recently accepted into the Class of 1969 Teaching Fellows in addition to being selected to work on “Albany Housing Data Analytics and Visualization Initiative for the City of Albany,” one of four projects for the Georgia Smart Communities Challenge. His research focuses on the intersection of data science and public policy, with applications to energy systems and behavior, smart cities, vehicle electrification, and applied machine learning in transportation and mobility.

His inclusion on APPAM’s 40 for 40 Fellowship list represents a major achievement for an early career scholar in public policy. APPAM’s goal is to provide opportunities for early career scholars to grow their professional networks and share their research with the broader policy audience.

The Georgia Tech School of Public Policy is a unit of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
