They identified three\u0026nbsp;candidates for the bases of proto-RNA:\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/compound\/barbituric_acid\u0022\u003Ebarbituric acid\u003C\/a\u003E,\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/science\/melamine\u0022\u003Emelamine\u003C\/a\u003E, and\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/compound\/2_4_6-Triaminopyrimidine%23section=Top\u0022\u003E2, 4, 6-triaminopyrimidine\u003C\/a\u003E. Reactions with these molecules and the ribose sugar produced nucleosides, which are composite molecules that are close to the sub-units of RNA.
