Japan Foundation Presents Funding to Modern Languages

In a special event on September 13, the Georgia Institute of Technology School of Modern Languages welcomed the Japan Foundation to campus for the presentation of $30,000 in funding. Consul General Shinozuka of the Consulate General of Japan in Atlanta presented a check for funds to School Chair Anna Westerstahl Stenport. The funds will support technology enhancements in the Modern Languages Japanese Program, including the development of more online courses.

The Japan Foundation has been a steadfast supporter of the School of Modern Languages since 1991. Foundation funding helped the School establish its first Japanese Language for Business of Technology (LBAT) summer intensive immersion program for students, as well as staff expansion grants to enrich undergraduate education.

The online language curriculum of Georgia Tech’s School of Modern Languages is open to any student enrolled in the University System of Georgia. The new funding will also enable expanded student access to Georgia Tech’s online Japanese curriculum, further promoting the language and culture of Japan regardless of students’ geographical constraints.

The School of Modern Languages is a unit of the Georgia Tech Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
