Sheri Andino has commanded the Georgia Tech Air Force ROTC\ndepartment since August 2006. Andino retired in August. In a special\nceremony September 2, she was honored for thirty years of commissioned\nservice with Major General Richard N. Goddard, USAF (Retired)\npresenting Andino Certificates of Retirement, Appreciation, and the\nLegion of Merit Medal.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cMy final assignment at GT has been one of the most rewarding of my\ncareer,\u201d Andino reflected. \u201cI have enjoyed the opportunity to work with\nthe world-class faculty and staff at Georgia Tech and to commission as\nSecond Lieutenants some of the very top graduates from Tech and from\ntwelve other Atlanta-area colleges and universities. Our cadets are\nexcelling in academics, devoting themselves to the extra hours required\nfor officership and leadership training in AFROTC, and many are working\npart-time and making significant contributions in community service.\nI\u2019m very proud of their dedication.\u201d \u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nThe AFROTC faculty and cadets have garnered numerous important awards\nduring Andino\u2019s tenure including the 2009 AFROTC Instructor of the\nYear, the 2006 AFROTC Cadet Training Assistant of the Year, 2006-2010\nSociety of American Military Engineers Awards, and the 2007 Alvin Ferst\nAward.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ECol Andino said, \u201cThere is long, strong, and proud history of ROTC\nat Georgia Tech. That history is sure to continue to flourish thanks to\nthe resounding support of the Atlanta community and our Tech family.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EColonel Andino was raised in Miami, Florida. She earned a Bachelor\u2019s\ndegree in Finance from the University of Florida and received her\ncommission via the AFROTC program in 1980. She flew the KC-135\nin-flight refueling aircraft as a navigator for over thirteen years.\nAndino further served as an installation commander in England and base\ncommander in Diego Garcia, supporting operations in Afghanistan, and in\nWashington, D.C. During her career, she also earned two Master\u2019s\ndegrees.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EColonel Andino is married to Greg Straka, a longtime Atlanta\nresident and Georgia Power Company Claims and Litigation Specialist.\nUpon the graduation of their son, Sean, from St. Pius X Catholic High\nSchool, the family will move to Dade City, FL, where Andino hopes to\ncontinue teaching.\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ECol.
