Over a couple of hours, President G.P. \u0026ldquo;Bud\u0026rdquo; Peterson and others described how Georgia Tech is making college more accessible while also helping more students succeed.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDeVos noted that the Institute\u0026nbsp;is \u0026ldquo;meeting the needs of students today and tomorrow and really changing to meet those needs in very innovative ways.\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;It is fascinating and I hope that what they have done is replicated far and wide in unique ways to each situation,\u0026rdquo; she told reporters after\u0026nbsp;the event.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOfficials highlighted the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/finaid.gatech.edu\/tech-promise\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Promise Program\u003C\/a\u003E, which allows academically qualified students with demonstrated financial need to earn a degree debt-free. They also shared details about special initiatives, such as the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/admission.gatech.edu\/gtscholars\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Scholars Program\u003C\/a\u003E, which offers automatic acceptance to valedictorians and salutatorians from Georgia public and private high schools with 50 or more graduates.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn addiiton, DeVos heard about Tech programs designed to expose students to entrepreneurship and help them launch successful startups. These programs include the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/inventureprize.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EInVenture Prize\u003C\/a\u003E, the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/inventurechallenge.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EK-12 InVenture Prize\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/create-x.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ECREATE-X\u003C\/a\u003E.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOfficials then reviewed Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s three online master\u0026rsquo;s degree programs, which allow students to earn degrees exclusively through the \u0026quot;massive online\u0026quot; format and for a fraction of the standard cost.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe first was the groundbreaking\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.omscs.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EOnline Master of Science in Computer Science\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;program, which launched in 2014 and enrolls about 10,000 students. Last year Georgia Tech started the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/pe.gatech.edu\/degrees\/analytics\u0022\u003EOnline Master of Science in Analytics\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;and in January will offer the new\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/pe.gatech.edu\/degrees\/cybersecurity\u0022\u003EOnline Master of Science in Cybersecurity\u003C\/a\u003E, aimed at addressing a severe global workforce shortage in the field.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAs part of its K-12 outreach, Georgia Tech explained the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.ceismc.gatech.edu\/gift\u0022\u003EGIFT\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;(Georgia Intern Fellowship for Teachers) program, which provides paid summer internships in industry workplaces and university laboratories for science, mathematics and technology teachers. Teachers gain \u0026quot;real world\u0026quot; applications of the subjects they teach and increase their content knowledge.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDeVos later had lunch with students from\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/projectengages.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EProject ENGAGES\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;(Engaging New Generations at Georgia Tech through Engineering and Science).
