{"612586":{"#nid":"612586","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Georgia Tech Receives the INSIGHT Into Diversity HEED Award for Fifth Consecutive Year","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EFor the fifth consecutive year, \u003Cem\u003EINSIGHT Into Diversity \u003C\/em\u003Ehas given the 2018 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award to Georgia Tech in recognition of its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;We are honored,\u0026rdquo; said Archie Ervin, vice president for Institute Diversity and president of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education. \u0026ldquo;On the heels of a challenging year for our campus community, we remain steadfast in our commitment to an inclusive, safe, and healthy community on our path forward together as \u0026lsquo;One Georgia Tech.\u0026rsquo;\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOpen to all colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada, the award measures an institution\u0026rsquo;s level of achievement and intensity of commitment in regard to broadening diversity and inclusion on campus through initiatives, programs, and outreach; student recruitment, retention, and completion; and hiring practices for faculty and staff.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAward applications are reviewed and evaluated by representatives of Potomac Publishing Inc., publisher of \u003Cem\u003EINSIGHT Into Diversity, \u003C\/em\u003Eand the magazine\u0026rsquo;s editorial board members may have also been asked to assist with evaluating applications.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s HEED Award application received our highest score to date,\u0026rdquo; said Keona Lewis, program review and research manager for Institute Diversity\u003Cem\u003E.\u003C\/em\u003E \u0026ldquo;While we are grateful for the recognition, there is still work to do as evidenced by our recently released report from the 2017 Faculty and Staff Climate Assessment Surveys.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENinety-six higher education institutions, including Georgia Tech, received the HEED Award this year.
