{"613114":{"#nid":"613114","#data":{"type":"news","title":"School of Public Policy Hosts 2018 NASPAA Conference","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EFrom October 10 - 13, the Georgia Institute of Technology School of Public Policy hosted \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.naspaa.org\/\u0022\u003ENetwork of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration\u003C\/a\u003E (NASPAA) 2018, the premier annual conference of deans, directors, and faculty from public policy and affairs graduate programs around the world.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026quot;Co-hosting NASPAA in Atlanta this year allowed the Georgia Tech School of Public Policy greater visibility in conference sessions, where our faculty were presenters and session leaders,\u0026quot; said School of Public Policy Chair Kaye Husbands Fealing.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHeld in downtown Atlanta, this year\u0026#39;s conference featured\u0026nbsp;keynotes, workshops, and panels with\u0026nbsp;350\u0026nbsp;speakers from over 160 schools, including 23 international schools.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESchool of Public Policy faculty, staff, and students played an instrumental role at the conference through logistical support, participation in speaker and panel sessions, and introducing visiting faculty\u0026nbsp;to Atlanta.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESome notable highlights included Husbands Fealing\u0026#39;s introduction of Raphael Bostic, the president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, who provided the keynote lecture for the conference. NASPAA recently appointed Husbands Fealing to\u0026nbsp;their Executive Council following her years of activity in the organization,\u0026nbsp;particularly on their Data Council, and Diversity and Inclusion subcommittee.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nHusbands Fealing also led visiting faculty on a\u0026nbsp;tour of Tech Square,\u0026nbsp;which included a talk with\u0026nbsp;Kendeda Living Building\u0026nbsp;Director Shan Arora and Skanska USA Project Manager Jimmy Mitchell. The pair gave an overview\u0026nbsp;of how the Kendeda Building will be constructed, how environmental policy and sustainability will be\u0026nbsp;implemented onsite, and how research and education will be combined in the building and surrounding sites.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn addition, tour attendees were treated to a history of the development of Tech Square from Ngozi Chuku, a consultant\u0026nbsp;at Georgia Tech, and Carl Rust, who serves as associate vice president for international initiatives at Tech.
