The conference attracted scholars with diverse and interdisciplinary backgrounds to discuss the best approaches for implementing and assessing progress towards the United Nations\u0026rsquo;\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/sdgs\u0022\u003ESustainable Development Goals\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;(SDGs).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDhongde presented a paper entitled,\u0026nbsp;\u0026ldquo;Rapid Economic Growth but Rising Poverty Segregation: Will Vietnam Meet the SDGs for Equitable Development?\u0026rdquo; Vietnam is widely regarded as a success story for its rapid economic growth and significant decline in poverty in the last two decades.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHowever, Dhongde and her collaborators, which included researchers from the World Bank and National Economics University at Hanoi, found\u0026nbsp;evidence on rising inequality within provinces in the country. The authors concluded that\u0026nbsp;poverty in Vietnam is increasingly concentrated in certain provinces with larger shares of ethnic minorities.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFirst ratified by the U.N. General Assembly in 2015, the SDGs comprise\u0026nbsp;17 international goals that span a wide variety of social, economic, and environmental issues. Numerous Atlanta civic and academic institutions including Georgia Tech\u0026nbsp;committed to furthering the SDGs after\u0026nbsp;Atlanta was designated\u0026nbsp;as a \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/serve-learn-sustain.gatech.edu\/rce-greater-atlanta\u0022\u003ERegional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (RCE)\u003C\/a\u003E.
