Game the System.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHere\u0026#39;s an excerpt:\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cblockquote\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003ELast July, when Indonesia\u0026rsquo;s Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (RISTEK) here honored eight researchers, along with institutions and journals, for their exceptional contributions to science, observers noticed something odd. Many of the laureates were relatively unknown academics from second-tier universities; underdogs had apparently become leaders.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIt didn\u0026rsquo;t take curious scientists long to figure out why. The honors went to top scorers in Indonesia\u0026rsquo;s Science and Technology Index (SINTA), a system introduced in early 2017 to measure research performance.
