  <title><![CDATA[John Crittenden to Receive 2020 ASCE Simon W. Freese Award]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>The American Society of Civil Engineers recently announced that BBISS Director and Civil Engineering Professor John Crittenden will be presented with&nbsp;the 2020 Simon W. Freese Environmental Engineering Award and Lecture.&nbsp;This award is given to recognize &ldquo;extraordinary accomplishments in using fundamental scientific principles and current research findings to solve the most challenging water quality problems.&rdquo;&nbsp;The award and monetary prize will be formally given during the World Environmental &amp; Water Resources Congress in 2020.&nbsp;At the conference, Prof. Crittenden will present a lecture, which will&nbsp;be published in the meeting proceedings.</p>

<p>Prof. Crittenden received the Walter L. Huber Research Prize from the ASCE in 1991 for his research contributions on the removal of organics from water.&nbsp;He was elected as an ASCE Fellow in 2016.&nbsp; The American Society of Civil Engineers has more than 150,000 members around the world.&nbsp; The Society works to advance the civil engineering profession through many professional- and public-focused programs, publications, conferences, and awards.</p>
