Once she finishes her degree later this year, she\u0026rsquo;ll \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.marshallscholarship.org\/news\/view?id=62\u0026amp;x[0]=news\/list\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003Econtinue it in Britain as the 2019 Marshall Sherfield Fellow.\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;The burden of infectious enteric disease is too high and disproportionately affects the most vulnerable worldwide \u0026mdash; young children, the elderly, and the poor,\u0026rdquo; Knee said. \u0026ldquo;I have worked in the [water, sanitation and hygiene] sector for over 10 years because I have seen the progress that has been made in terms of disease reductions, and I want to help ensure that progress continues.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Marshall Sherfield Fellowship offers one engineer or scientist from the United States the chance to do postdoctoral research in the United Kingdom for up to two years. Knee has proposed several new avenues of inquiry as the fellow, including tracking microbial exposure risk in the food chain.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;The idea is to understand when, where and how food becomes contaminated and to quantify exposure risks to consumers in Mozambique and Kenya,\u0026rdquo; said Knee, who works with \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ce.gatech.edu\/people\/Faculty\/6288\/overview\u0022\u003ECarlton S.
