The funds will also help cover their advisors\u0026rsquo; travel to conferences.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAdvised by Associate Professor \u003Cstrong\u003EPolo Chau, \u003C\/strong\u003EFreitas is a first-year Ph.D. student in the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.cse.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Computational Science and Engineering\u003C\/a\u003E. His research interests focus on machine learning and large-scale graph mining and how they apply to finance, cybersecurity, and healthcare.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Receiving this fellowship is an honor. I\u0026rsquo;m excited for the potential collaboration this fellowship opens with Raytheon. I plan to use the academic flexibility it provides to pursue my research in developing machine learning based cybersecurity systems to detect adversarial attacks,\u0026rdquo; said Freitas.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EScarafoni is advised by Associate Professor \u003Cstrong\u003EThomas Ploetz \u003C\/strong\u003Ein the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.ic.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Interactive Computing\u003C\/a\u003E and studies deep learning and human-computer interaction. The funding will allow Scarafoni to further pursue his goal of combining the strengths of both disciplines in order to solve problems that would be difficult to solve independently.
