The latest Georgia Tech representatives join 31 previous inductees from the Institute.

"As a Regents Professor in our school and as a Regents Researcher for GTRI, Krish is known worldwide for his seminal contributions in aeroacoustics," said Mark F. Costello, William R.T. Oakes School Chair in the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering. "We are fortunate and proud to have such a great colleague."

Ahuja is a Regents Professor in the School of Aerospace Engineering, and a Regents Researcher at the Georgia Tech Research Institute, where he is revered for his work in aircraft noise, acoustics facilities design, flow control, state-of-the-art instrumentation, and advanced signal processing.

He is a world-renowned expert and author on a variety of subjects including acoustic shielding, fan noise, active flow control, flow/acoustic interactions, jet noise, cavity noise, automobile noise, sonic boom research, psychoacoustics, high-temperature fiber optics strain gauges, acoustic transducers, active noise control, tilt rotor noise, source separation, acoustic fatigue, duct acoustics, computational aeroacoustics, innovative flow visualization techniques, and tornado signatures.

The National Academy said it was recognizing Koon “for contributions to the design of systems to treat chemically complex industrial wastewaters” in its Feb. 7 announcement.

“It is an incredible honor,” Koon said. “I’m delighted to be included in this remarkable group of engineers.”

Koon has built a career as one of the foremost experts in treating industrial wastewaters and helped develop some of the fundamental practices environmental engineers use today. Now he uses his 40 years of experience to shape a new generation of engineers as a professor of the practice in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

“Dr. Koon brings a wealth of practical experience to the classroom based on his many distinguished years of professional practice. He has been a tremendous advocate for student experiential learning, particularly in our environmental engineering design courses,” said Donald Webster, Karen and John Huff School Chair. “I am so pleased that his contributions have been honored with election to the NAE.”

Steve McLaughlin, dean and Southern Company Chair in the College of Engineering, lauded NAE's Class of 2019.

“We are delighted that the National Academy of Engineering has recognized our Georgia Tech faculty members for their outstanding contributions to engineering and as leaders in their fields.
