Yet, as of today, no city around the globe can claim to have successfully integrated a holistic smart cities approach.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nOne explanation is that there has been a disconnect between smart cities technologies and the residents of the communities these technologies are supposed to serve.\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nCollectively, the governments behind each community are working to address challenges across mobility, sustainability, accessibility for lower income citizens, and more. Though each of these areas have different desired outcomes, the approach is near identical: it starts with data.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nFor governments to understand where they need to apply smart solutions, they need to have the data in two areas. First, they need to see what their city looks like from a data-driven point of view \u0026ndash; e.g. where\u0026rsquo;s the traffic, where are the delays, where is the energy being spent, where is the flooding happening? Second, they need to have the opinion data of their residents \u0026ndash; e.g. what are their most pressing problems, what matters most to their well-being, is the proposed solution adequate?\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThis second component has often been overlooked to favor a technology-centric way.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThe \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EGeorgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech)\u003C\/a\u003E will hold a two-day Smart Cities Dialogue on May 7-8, 2019 to help frame the debate on this paradigm. It will discuss how to develop smarter communities that understand urban life primarily as a social, and only secondarily as a technical and logistic ecosystem. Topics will capture inclusive engagement, smaller communities that may not see themselves as part of the \u0026ldquo;smart cities\u0026rdquo; effort, social and socioeconomic mobility as well as connections within economic regions.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nIn addition to bringing together key national and international stakeholders from local governments as well as industry and academic leaders for a series of insightful discussions, attendees will have the opportunity to experience \u0026lsquo;research in action\u0026rsquo; and discover some of Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s latest solutions in this domain.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThis conference is intended for government representatives, smart cities experts and researchers, policy makers as well as industry leaders interested in this topic and in accessing Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s cross-disciplinary R\u0026amp;D capabilities.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Ch4\u003EOrganizing Committee:\u003C\/h4\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis is generously funded by the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/inta.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESam Nunn School of International Affairs\u003C\/a\u003E and the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.energy.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EStrategic Energy Institute\u003C\/a\u003E, as well as supported by \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/pe.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EProfessional Education\u003C\/a\u003E, \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/spp.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Public Policy\u003C\/a\u003E, and \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ce.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Civil and Environmental Engineering\u003C\/a\u003E.
