618103 news 1550603751 1551296720 <![CDATA[Col. Stephen C. Hall Appointed Adjunct Distinguished Professor of the Practice]]> Col. Stephen C. Hall, a 1967 alumnus of the Georgia Institute of Technology's Industrial Management program and prominent philanthropist for the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, was recently appointed as adjunct distinguished professor of the practice in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC).

The appointment enlarges on Hall's long-time activities with the College in a number of educational roles, including teaching undergraduates and postdoctoral fellows, assisting LMC's Writing and Communication Program, advising Georgia Tech undergraduates on career aspirations, and coordinating selected undergraduates to meet local institutional leaders.

“Colonel Hall brings a unique skill set to the School of Literature, Media, and Communication. His own path as a smart communicator will support our students in their own endeavors as he will share how active listening, verbal and non-verbal signals, confidence, open-mindedness, respect, and integrity enhance one's opportunities at finding and sustaining successful careers,” said LMC Chair Richard Utz. “The humanities at a technological institute could not possibly find a better advocate.”

Following his graduation from Georgia Tech, Hall dedicated 26 years to the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft maintenance/logistics officer. Most recently he retired as a Senior Fellow at L-3 Communications Systems-West in Salt Lake City, where he created the company’s first repair depot for high tech electronic components supporting platforms such as Global Hawk and Predator, as well as the CADRE training program for exceptional performers.

For the past decade, Col. Hall has been a member of the Ivan Allen College Advisory Board. He has also lectured at Georgia Tech on topics ranging from the accomplishments of women and African Americans in World War II, to “Survival Skills for Emerging Professionals,” to “How Composition 1101 and 1102 Can Change Your Life,” to special lectures for ROTC students.

“Col. Hall has a professional lifetime as a communicator, so his appointment as a professor of the practice in LMC lets Georgia Tech students benefit from his military and workplace expertise,” said LMC Professor and Writing and Communication Program Director Rebecca Burnett.

Col. Hall's wife, Pamela Rigby Hall, who holds a B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado, is an active partner in Hall's lectures and activities and interacting with Georgia Tech students and will continue that under his adjunct role. 

Stephen and Pamela have a robust history of multi-dimensional philanthropy and engagement in the College, which include endowments for the Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy Awards and the Stephen C. Hall Scholarship Fund for students in active duty military families.

Their philanthropic legacy was celebrated in 2013 following the opening of the Stephen C. Hall Building, which once housed Georgia Tech's Navy ROTC. The Hall Building is currently the home of the Writing and Communication Program. 

The School of Literature, Media, and Communication is a unit of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
