Among those to be feted are long-time supporters of the College, L. Reed Catlett and John M. Stern of the B and B Stern Foundation.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAlumni who are being honored for their accomplishments are \u003Cstrong\u003EBlake Butler \u003C\/strong\u003E(STaC 2003), \u003Cstrong\u003EAngelina Long Callahan (HSTS \u003C\/strong\u003EMS 2009 and PhD 2013), \u003Cstrong\u003ELeisha DeHart-Davis \u003C\/strong\u003E(PUBP MS 1993 and PhD 2000), \u003Cstrong\u003EAndrew Harris \u003C\/strong\u003E(MS IA 2010), \u003Cstrong\u003EKristin Lundberg \u003C\/strong\u003E(IAML 2006), and \u003Cstrong\u003EJoseph B. Owens, Jr. \u003C\/strong\u003E(ECON 1977)\u003Cstrong\u003E.\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe faculty, graduate, and undergraduate recipients of the Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy Awards are Shatakshee Dhongde (Economics), Emma M. Browning (International Affairs), and Yonatan Weinberg (History, Technology, and Society). These awards are endowed by Col. Stephen C. (IM 1967) and Mrs. Pamela Hall.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDean Jacqueline J. Royster will present the final honor of the evening, the Dean\u0026rsquo;s Appreciation Award, to Reed Catlett and John Stern. Catlett\u0026rsquo;s and Stern\u0026rsquo;s philanthropy at Georgia Tech forwards the legacy of former Georgia Tech professor Melvin Kranzberg who pioneered the history of technology field. He was married to Ms. Catlett\u0026rsquo;s mother, Louise Kranzberg. Mr. Stern is the owner of Methods Workshop and a member of the College Advisory Board. They endow the Kranzberg Professorship in the School of History and Sociology (HSOC) which also affords financial support for graduate students in the History and Sociology of Technology and Science master\u0026rsquo;s and doctoral program. They also endow scholarships for students in Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Navy Reserve Officer\u0026rsquo;s Training Corp (NROTC).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EProfessor Kranzberg\u0026rsquo;s seminal Six Laws of Technology were truisms, the first of which states \u0026ldquo;Technology is neither good nor bad;\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003Enor is it neutral\u003C\/em\u003E.\u0026rdquo; These laws, and their continuing relevance, were featured in the \u003Cem\u003EWall Street Journal \u003C\/em\u003Ein November 2017 in the article \u0026ldquo;Six Laws of Technology Everyone Should Know.\u0026rdquo; They are displayed on a plaque in \u0026ldquo;The Mel\u0026rdquo; conference room which Catlett and Stern dedicated \u0026ldquo;as a place for students to meet, work, teach, and relax.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EKranzberg was Calloway Professor of the History of Technology at Georgia Tech from 1972-1988. He was a founder of the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Society_for_the_History_of_Technology\u0022 title=\u0022Society for the History of Technology\u0022\u003ESociety for the History of Technology\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;(SHOT) and served two decades as editor of its journal\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Technology_and_Culture\u0022 title=\u0022Technology and Culture\u0022\u003ETechnology and Culture\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/em\u003E. Kranzberg came to his office at Georgia Tech seven days a week even after retiring and at one time had a dedicated parking space.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Awards evening begins at 5:30 P.M. with a networking reception and buffet dinner, then culminates in the awards program which begins at 6:30 P.M. Faculty, staff, friends, and students are invited to attend.
