These appointments will become effective Aug. 15, 2019 after Board of Regents approval.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EDevi Parikh\u003C\/strong\u003E received tenure and was elevated to the position of associate professor. Parikh joined IC in 2016 and also currently works as a research scientist at Facebook AI Research (FAIR). She earned her Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University in 2009. Her research focus is in artificial intelligence (AI) at the intersection of machine learning and computer vision, and she has been recently recognized as one of the top women in AI in publications like \u003Cem\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/projects\/13548844\/women-in-ai\/\u0022\u003EVogue\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/em\u003E and \u003Cem\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/mariyayao\/2017\/05\/18\/meet-20-incredible-women-advancing-a-i-research\/2\/#3b0a91c84ede\u0022\u003EForbes\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/em\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EDhruv Batra\u003C\/strong\u003E, who joined IC in 2016, received tenure and an elevation to associate professor. His machine learning and computer vision research has been featured in the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/ideas\/2015\/04\/01\/how-automatically-detect-most-important-people-photograph\/tZND3z3epWTJu4Gvf9FSRN\/story.html\u0022\u003E\u003Cem\u003EBoston Globe\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/artificial-intelligence-algorithm-taught-recognise-humor-413832\u0022\u003E\u003Cem\u003ENewsweek\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, and other media outlets. Batra earned his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon in 2010 and is also a FAIR research scientist.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EKaren Liu\u003C\/strong\u003E, who already has tenure, was promoted to the position of full professor. Liu received her Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 2005. Her research focus is in computer graphics and robotics, including physics-based animation, character animation, optimal control, reinforcement learning, and computational biomechanics. Along with her students, she founded the physics simulator \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/dartsim.github.io\/\u0022\u003EDART\u003C\/a\u003E, which won the Grand Prize of Open Source Software World Challenge in 2016.
