{"619648":{"#nid":"619648","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Undergraduates from Five Ivan Allen College Schools Intern at Georgia State Capitol","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EStudents from five of the six\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\u0022\u003E\u0026nbsp;Ivan Allen College\u0026nbsp;of Liberal Arts\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;schools are part of this year\u0026rsquo;s\u0026nbsp;Georgia Legislative Internship Program (GLIP), making the College cadre of interns one of the most diverse in regard to disciplines in recent years.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe internship began on January 9, and will continue\u0026nbsp;approximately 12 to 16 weeks from January to April, depending on the length of the\u0026nbsp;state legislative session. These are full-time, paid internships.\u0026nbsp;During the course of the internship, students work in offices in and around the Georgia State Capitol in downtown Atlanta.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWith 10 students from the Ivan Allen College accepted into the 2019 GLIP, we comprise\u0026nbsp;the majority of the 13 Georgia Institute of Technology\u0026nbsp;students in this year\u0026#39;s program,\u0026nbsp;which\u0026nbsp;admits approximately 30 students every year from universities around the state.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe 2019 Ivan Allen GLIP interns are:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EDalton Booker\u003C\/strong\u003E - Public Policy\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECharles Boyter\u003C\/strong\u003E - Economics\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAlli Brightwell\u003C\/strong\u003E - Literature, Media, and Communication\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECharlotte Cuccia\u003C\/strong\u003E - Economics and International Affairs\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ERachel Dekom\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;- History, Technology, and\u0026nbsp;Society\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECharlotte Densmore\u003C\/strong\u003E - Public Policy\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ENisha Lee\u003C\/strong\u003E - Public Policy\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EHarper Melnick\u003C\/strong\u003E - International Affairs\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EPeter Tilly\u003C\/strong\u003E - Public Policy\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EChristopher Walton\u003C\/strong\u003E - Economics\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMost interns are assigned to work for a standing committee in either the House or Senate, while\u0026nbsp;a few may be assigned to legislative staff offices.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EStudents get the opportunity to take on important legislative\u0026nbsp;responsiblities, such as\u0026nbsp;handling research bills or issues before the General Assembly, working with a legislative committee, and monitoring the progress of legislation.
