The internship began on January 9, and will continue approximately 12 to 16 weeks from January to April, depending on the length of the state legislative session. These are full-time, paid internships. During the course of the internship, students work in offices in and around the Georgia State Capitol in downtown Atlanta.
With 10 students from the Ivan Allen College accepted into the 2019 GLIP, we comprise the majority of the 13 Georgia Institute of Technology students in this year's program, which admits approximately 30 students every year from universities around the state.

Most interns are assigned to work for a standing committee in either the House or Senate, while a few may be assigned to legislative staff offices.
Students get the opportunity to take on important legislative responsiblities, such as handling research bills or issues before the General Assembly, working with a legislative committee, and monitoring the progress of legislation. Above all, these interns benefit from the valuable opportunity to witness the lawmaking process firsthand.
“It seemed like a great opportunity to intern in a political office while also being able to live in Atlanta and stay involved on campus,” third-year Public Policy student Nisha Lee said. She works in the office of Senator Bill Cowsert (R-Athens), who also chairs the Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee.
