Mentoring is a structured and trusting relationshipthat brings younger professionals or students into contact with experienced faculty members or other professionalpsychologists who offer guidance, support, and encouragement aimed at developing the knowledge, professional skills, competencies, and character of the younger person. In 2004, SEPA established a Mentor Award with the support of the Education Directorate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and presented the cash award for the first time.

Past SEPA Mentor Award Winners:

-Mike Rulon of Covenant College, Lookout Mountain, Georgia

-Wallace Kennedy of Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida2006 -Christopher Leone of University of North Florida, Jacksonville, Florida

-Stephen Nowicki of Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia

-Charles Brewer of Furman University, Greenville, South Carolina

-Sandra Willis of Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama

-Susan Walch of University of West Florida, Pensacola, Florida

-Merry Sleigh -Ritzer of Winthrop University, Rock Hill, South Carolina

-Tammy Lowery Zacchilli of Saint Leo University, Saint Leo, Florida

-Christian End of Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio

-Jennifer Hughes of Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Georgia

-Larry Bates of University of North Alabama, Florence, Alabama

–Mary Utley of Drury University, Springfield, Missouri

–James L.
