{"620342":{"#nid":"620342","#data":{"type":"event","title":"Untangling the Mess with Marine Spatial Planning","body":[{"value":"\u003Ch4\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EOcean Science and Engineering Presents, Dr. Grover Fugate, Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC)\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h4\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EUntangling the Mess with Marine Spatial Planning\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn 2010, the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) adopted the Ocean Special Area Management Plan (Ocean SAMP), as a comprehensive set of regulations outlining Rhode Island\u0026#39;s process for ensuring the management and protection of its ocean resources and activities, going offshore 30 miles into the Outer Continental Shelf waters.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe plan gave the state a comprehensive regulatory plan for its ocean waters that reflects exceptional science, rigorous yet flexible policies, and extensive public participation\u0026mdash;a plan that would give Rhode Islanders a significant role in determining how the state\u0026rsquo;s offshore waters should be developed, or simply be left alone.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe project seemed daunting.
