Giddens, Dean of the College of Engineering.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe event will highlight Rosser\u2019s research and leadership in attracting and retaining women in science, technology, and engineering.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EReception - 3:30pm\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nLecture - 4:00pm\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0022Gendered Innovations in Science and Engineering,\u0022\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nBy Londa Schiebinger, the John L. Hinds Professor of Science and Director of the Gendered Innovations in Science, Medicine, and Engineering Project in the Department of History at Stanford University.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAbstract:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn this talk I set out three distinct levels for analyzing issues concerning women and gender in science. These are:\u0026nbsp; 1) efforts to increase the number of women in science; 2) programs to remove bias and barriers from the institutions of science; 3) analyses of sex and gender in knowledge or research results. I will treat each aspect in this analysis but give special attention to the third level\u2014the knowledge level, or what I call Gendered Innovations. \u201cGendered Innovations\u201d means employing methods of sex and gender analysis as a resource to create new knowledge.\u0026nbsp; I will present several concrete examples of how gender analysis can profoundly enhance excellence in science and engineering.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EI will introduce the Stanford Gendered Innovations Project where we are developing state-of-the-art \u201cMethods of Sex and Gender Analysis\u201d for basic and applied research in science, medicine, and engineering.
