{"620621":{"#nid":"620621","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Ivan Allen College Faculty and Staff Celebrated at Spring Luncheon","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EOn, April 16, 2019, faculty and staff from \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\u0022\u003Ethe Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;were recognized\u0026nbsp;for their accomplishments, service, and research contributions at the Spring Faculty and Staff Recognition Luncheon.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDean Jacqueline Royster\u0026nbsp;recognized the accomplishments of the College throughout the year, and looked back on her time as dean as she prepares to step down in August 2019.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;As I reflect upon my almost nine years as dean and the role of liberal arts at Tech and beyond, I see our path steadily evolving \u0026ndash; slowly, but steadily,\u0026rdquo; Dean Royster said.\u0026nbsp;\u0026ldquo;We have had bold advocates during our 131 years on campus \u0026ndash; students, faculty, and executive leadership who have helped us to make the case for leadership and accomplishments, and I am here to say\u0026nbsp;that the need for advocacy continues. What I know, though, is that this collaboration with us has been and continues to be worth the effort.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ERoyster said it was the people who matter most and presented the following recognitions:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFaculty members\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EMatthew Oliver\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;(Economics),\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EDan Amsterdam\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E(HSOC), \u003Cstrong\u003EJohnny Smith\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E(HSOC),\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003ENassim Parvin\u003C\/strong\u003E (LMC), \u003Cstrong\u003EPaul Alonso\u003C\/strong\u003E (Modern Languages), \u003Cstrong\u003EJan Uelzmann\u003C\/strong\u003E (Modern Languages)\u0026nbsp;were recognized for their promotions to associate professor, and for earning tenure.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENewly promoted academic professionals were recognized:\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EBrandy Blake\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E(LMC), senior academic professional and director of the Naugle Communication Center, and\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EMelissa Foulger\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;(LMC), senior academic professional and director of DramaTech.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ERecipients of the Distinguished Staff Awards for their administrative services were \u003Cstrong\u003EMayumi Cole\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E(Army ROTC),\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0026nbsp;David Selman\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E(Dean\u0026rsquo;s Office),\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0026nbsp;Jenny Strakovsky\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E(Modern Languages), \u003Cstrong\u003EJoycelyn Thomas\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E(LMC),\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003Eand\u003Cstrong\u003E Michael Terrell\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E(LMC). Financial Administrator Lead \u003Cstrong\u003EGregory Abrams\u003C\/strong\u003E was recognized\u0026nbsp;for 26 years of service\u0026nbsp;at Georgia Tech. Those recognized for ten years of service were\u0026nbsp;Financial Manager II in Modern Languages\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0026nbsp;Edward Able,\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003EDirector of Facilities \u003Cstrong\u003ESam Aral\u003C\/strong\u003E, Director of Communications\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003ERebecca Keane\u003C\/strong\u003E, and Sponsored Research Financial Manager II\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0026nbsp;David Selman\u003C\/strong\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Ivan Allen College Student Advisory Board presented Distinguished Teaching Awards to\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0026nbsp;Daniel Amsterdam\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E(HSOC) and\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EAdele Douglin\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;(Modern Languages).\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDean Royster presented the Faculty Researcher Awards: \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Gold Star \u0026ndash; Level 1 awards recognize faculty who, for the first time, garner $100,000 or more in external research dollars.
