The framed oil painting of Galil joins portraits of his John P. Imlay Jr. Dean of Computing predecessors, founding dean \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.cc.gatech.edu\/people\/peter-freeman\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EPeter Freeman\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, and \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.cc.gatech.edu\/people\/richard-demillo\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ERichard DeMillo\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe painting was unveiled May 3 as part of the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/b.gatech.edu\/2GKjllx\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003ECollege\u0026rsquo;s Hall of Fame induction ceremony\u003C\/a\u003E. Freeman, who served as master of ceremonies for this part of the event, spoke about Galil\u0026rsquo;s lasting contributions to the GT Computing community just before the unveiling the portrait for Zvi and the 125-plus guests in attendance.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe painting, approximately 24 inches tall and 20 inches wide, is by renowned portrait artist \u003Cstrong\u003ESergei Chernikov\u003C\/strong\u003E. He also painted DeMillo\u0026rsquo;s portrait so, according to \u003Cstrong\u003ELaDonna Cherry\u003C\/strong\u003E, the College\u0026rsquo;s creative services manager, it made sense to work with Chernikov on Zvi\u0026rsquo;s portrait.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I\u0026rsquo;ve always admired Sergei\u0026rsquo;s portrait of DeMillo. He has a classic sensibility and a real talent for using color and light to identify and animate something real about his portraiture subjects,\u0026rdquo; said Cherry, art director for the project. \u0026ldquo;I think that this is certainly true of Zvi\u0026rsquo;s portrait.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/b.gatech.edu\/2OGKckA\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003E[RELATED:\u0026nbsp;Charles Isbell Named Next Dean of the College of Computing]\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWork to get to the unveiling began in August 2018. That\u0026rsquo;s when \u003Cstrong\u003EBirney Robert \u0026ndash;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003ECollege event coordinator\u0026nbsp;and project leader \u0026ndash;\u0026nbsp;received approval to engage an artist for the project.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOnce he agreed to pick up the commission, Chernikov was provided a few photos\u0026nbsp;of Galil taken by the College\u0026#39;s staff photographer, \u003Cstrong\u003ETerence Rushin\u003C\/strong\u003E.
