{"622243":{"#nid":"622243","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Ivan Allen College Students Win JUMP into STEM Competition","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ETaylor Strickland and Rachel Wexler, two undergraduate students in the Georgia Institute of Technology\u0026rsquo;s \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/spp.gatech.edu\u0022\u003ESchool of Public Policy\u003C\/a\u003E, have been named winners of \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/dm.lmc.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/618907\/georgia-tech-students-invited-jump-into-stem-finals\/?doing_wp_cron=1556896178.1800739765167236328125\u0022\u003Ethe\u0026nbsp;JUMP\u0026nbsp;into\u0026nbsp;STEM\u0026nbsp;national competition\u003C\/a\u003E in Golden, Colorado\u0026nbsp;for their projects on smart\/connected communities and building energy performance.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe winners of the final round of the competition, which took place from April 12 \u0026ndash; 14 received internship offers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL),\u0026nbsp;respectively.\u0026nbsp;ORNL and\u0026nbsp;the U.S. Department of Energy sponsored the competition as well.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe students represented two interdisciplinary teams of Georgia Tech undergraduates who competed in JUMP into STEM as a key component of \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/spp.gatech.edu\u0022\u003ESchool of Public Policy\u003C\/a\u003E Assistant Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/spp.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/omar-isaac-asensio\u0022\u003EOmar Asensio\u0026rsquo;s\u003C\/a\u003E Data Science and Public Policy course (PUBP 4803).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAsensio\u0026rsquo;s students were organized into two teams, both of which submitted research proposals for the Round 1 topic, entitled \u0026ldquo;Connecting the Right Data at the Right Time to Improve Residential Building Performance.\u0026rdquo;
