The award recognizes\u0026nbsp;outstanding contributions in research on military selection and recruitment.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe American Psychological Association (APA)\u0026nbsp;Division 19 (\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.militarypsych.org\/?fbclid=IwAR1LU0ZEP8pjkAXJ4h1ra33wKiBCHOBpBGYP5-Re7qOOxlWGYEYJGf9bYho\u0022\u003ESociety for Military Psychology\u003C\/a\u003E) selected Ackerman and his team of Navy and Air Force\u0026nbsp;psychologists for their development of selection battery and classification tools for UAS (unmanned\u0026nbsp;aircraft systems) personnel.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.militarypsych.org\/awards.html\u0022\u003Eaward\u003C\/a\u003E will be given during the Society for Military Psychology\u0026#39;s business meeting at the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/convention.apa.org\/\u0022\u003E2019 APA convention\u003C\/a\u003E in Chicago, on Aug. 8-11, 2019.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAbout the Award\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe award is named after the late Julius \u0026quot;Jay\u0026quot; E. Uhlaner. The former Army Research Institute (ARI) technician and chief psychologist of the U.S. Army left a lasting legacy through his leadership and research achievements in applying psychology to military problems.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn 1976, Uhlaner received the Presidential Award for Management Improvement from President Gerald R. Ford for his work at ARI. He subsequently received a Lifetime Achievement award from Division 19 (Military Psychology) of the APA in 1995.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThe \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.militarypsych.org\/\u0022\u003ESociety for Military Psychology\u003C\/a\u003E is one of the original 19 charter divisions established by the APA in 1945. It seeks to serve as the premier organization for military psychology.
