Milton Stewart School of Industrial and\nSystems Engineering (ISyE) has been selected by the College Industry Council on\nMaterial Handling Education (CICMHE) as winners in its annual CICMHE Design\nCompetition.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EChen\nZhou, associate professor and associate chair for Undergraduate Studies,\nadvised both student teams, This\nyear\u2019s team,\ncomprising Colby Allen, Philip\nPecher, Tim Wilson, and Yigong Zhang, was awarded second place in the\ncompetition, winning a cash prize of $1000 in addition to a $500 prize for the\nStewart School.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\n\u201cTo really appreciate this,\u201d states Leon McGinnis, Eugene C.\nGwaltney Chair in Manufacturing Systems, \u201cyou\nneed to know that usually the award-winning teams come from programs that have\na full course devoted to facility logistics--analyzing and designing facilities\nthat feature material handling as a primary element--and it is a major\ninvestment of time for the student competitors.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\nstudents for the 2009-2010 competition tackled the problem of developing plans\nfor the construction and equipping of a new distribution center for ToolFair\nDistributors that will commence shipment to customers no later than June 2011. CICMHE\nsponsors the annual material handling student design competition for teams of\nstudents interested in the analysis and design of material handling systems.\nSince the first design competition was offered during the 1994-1995 academic\nyear, student design teams have developed material handling system designs for\na variety of manufacturing and warehousing operations.
