Most recently, he was associate professor of industrial and interaction design at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where he headed the Wearables and Interactive Products Lab. Budd has taught both in the United States and Canada, including Georgia Tech from 1997 to 2001, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Carleton University, Ottawa, where he was instrumental in assisting with the development of a new graduate program in industrial design.\u0026nbsp; He has an extensive research and publication record and has received several design and teaching awards\u2013most recently a Gold Award in the Concept Category in the IDSA Northwest Design Invitational for Kurio, a tangible interactive museum guide. His students also have won more than 12 national and international design awards, including five finalists and the winning submission for the Microsoft Next PC competition and first place in the Hydro Sustainable Design Competition.Professor Budd holds a Master of Visual Arts with a major in industrial design from the University of Alberta and a Diploma of Applied Arts with a major in industrial design from Conestoga College. He completed undergraduate studies in systems design engineering and architecture before discovering the road to industrial design. He has been a member of Industrial Designers Society of America since 1989, and has held memberships and leadership positions in other design industry associations including being president of the Electronic Industry Association of Alberta.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EAs Oliver Professor of Practice in Design and Engineering at Georgia Tech, \u003Cstrong\u003EWayne K. Li\u003C\/strong\u003E is tasked with advancing interdisciplinary design at Georgia Tech, leading joint\nteaching initiatives in mechanical engineering and industrial design. The position is jointly appointed to the Colleges of Architecture and Engineering named for alumnus James L. Oliver, II (BS ID 1965, ME 1967). Li\u0027s twelve-year career spans brand management, product design and mechanical engineering in transportation and home d\u00e9cor sectors, as well as design education at Stanford University. He brings a proven track record in multi-disciplinary team building with emphasis on brainstorming, innovation and rapid prototyping to the position. Most recently, Li has led innovation and market expansion for Pottery Barn seasonal home products, leading to significant business growth across multiple product categories, including home office, clocks, consumer electronics and lighting. He also has become an influential teacher in Stanford University\u2019s design program where he teaches visual communication and digital media techniques. Previously, Li led \u2018interface development\u2019 in Volkwagen of America\u2019s Electronics Research Laboratory, and developed corporate brand and vehicle differentiation strategies at Ford Motor Company.
