The fifth annual dinner honoring the group was held\nOct. 16\u003Csup\u003Eth\u003C\/sup\u003E at the Commerce Club in Atlanta.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cAs an American of Irish descent, it is an honor to be\nrecognized by Irish America magazine alongside such notable individuals as\nArchbishop John F. Donoghue, Yeats scholar Joseph M. Hassett, and Betty Scott\nNoble, descendent of Agnes Scott College\u2019s founder,\u201d Cross said. \u201cI accept this\nhonor on behalf of the great team at Georgia Tech who made Georgia Tech\u2019s\nprogram in Ireland possible and who lead it today. I\u2019m proud of the impact we\nhave had, the collaborations we have established with research universities and\ncorporations there, and the benefits they are bring to Georgia Tech and our\nregion. We have made accessible the enriching culture and enduring beauty of\nIreland to our students.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EOne of the founders of Georgia Tech Ireland, Cross also has\nserved on the Queen\u2019s University Belfast advisory board, as a Science\nFoundation Ireland consultant, and has worked with IDA (Industrial Development\nAgency) Ireland. Recently, he was invited to be a member of the board for the\nAtlantic Corridor in Tullamore, County Offaly.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cDr. Cross is truly worthy of our Star of the South honor,\u201d\nsaid magazine editor and co-founder Patricia Harty. \u201cWe were delighted to honor\nhis contributions to American education and his innovative work in the\ntechnology sector.\u0026nbsp;As one of the founders of Georgia Tech Ireland and\nthrough his work with Science Foundation Ireland and Queen\u0027s University\nBelfast, Dr. Cross has made a major contribution\u0026nbsp;to the land of his\nancestors.\u0026nbsp;The benefits of Georgia Tech Ireland, and access that it affords\nstudents to one of the top research institutions in the world, is\nimmeasurable.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EIrish America magazine has honored the top Irish Americans\nwith an award ceremony in New York for the past 20 years.
