Fall 2019 Employment Opportunity

Five student workers are sought to assist with the Mayor Ivan Allen Digital Archive Community Researcher Workshop. The tentative date/location is Saturday, November 16, 2019 in the HSOC Computer Lab (Old CE G07).

As mayor from 1962 to 1970, Ivan Allen, Jr. oversaw a period of Atlanta's history widely identified with economic dynamism, but also characterized by challenges to the city racial status quo and the particular strategies that his administration and the local business community pursued. Student workers will help facilitate a one-day (6 hour) workshop for community and academic researchers interested in learning about and exploring the Mayor Ivan Allen Digital Archive, a collaboration between Georgia Tech's Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts and the Atlanta History Center. The Archive consists of some 30,000 pages worth of Allen's administrative records, digitized in 2016 as one of the original Mellon-funded DILAC (Digital Integrative Liberal Arts Center) projects here at Georgia Tech.

In a projected four one-hour orientation sessions preceding the workshop, students will learn about Mayor Allen's time in office and learn how to create online exhibits using Omeka, an open-source platform that participants will use in the November workshop.

10 hours @ $15/hour compensation (4 hours orientation, 6 hours workshop)
