Will we all be seeing \nPrincess Leia in a beam of light?\u0026nbsp; Based on current trends and inspired \nguesswork, we will go together on a tour of the future.\u003C\/p\u003E\n        \n        \n\n\n    \n            \n                      \n              \u003Cstrong\u003EBio:\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\n                    \u003Cp\u003EKen Perlin is a professor in the Department of \nComputer Science at New York University, directs the NYU Games For \nLearning Institute. He was also founding director of the Media Research \nLaboratory and director of the NYU Center for Advanced Technology. His \nresearch interests include graphics, animation, user interfaces, science\n education and multimedia. He received an Academy Award for Technical \nAchievement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his\n noise and turbulence procedural texturing techniques, which are widely \nused in feature films and television, as well as the 2008 ACM\/SIGGRAPH \nComputer Graphics Achievement Award, the TrapCode award for achievement \nin computer graphics research, the NYC Mayor\u0027s award for excellence in \nScience and Technology and the Sokol award for outstanding Science \nfaculty at NYU, and a Presidential Young Investigator Award from the \nNational Science Foundation. Dr. Perlin is general chair of the UIST2010\n conference, and has been a featured artist at the Whitney Museum of \nAmerican Art. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EDr. Perlin received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from New York \nUniversity, and a B.A. in theoretical mathematics from Harvard \nUniversity. Before working at NYU he was Head of Software Development at\n R\/GREENBERG Associates in New York, NY. Prior to that he was the System\n Architect for computer generated animation at Mathematical Applications\n Group, Inc.
