The \u003Cstrong\u003ESchool of Modern Languages\u003C\/strong\u003E has taught Mandarin Chinese for many\u0026nbsp;years and watched enrollment continue to rise with China\u0026rsquo;s entrance onto the world political and economic forums.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;The ability to effectively interact in the Chinese language and culture has become a must for many future leaders of technology, science, industry, business, government, and nonprofit organizations,\u0026rdquo; said \u003Cstrong\u003EJin Lui\u003C\/strong\u003E, who directs the Chinese program in the School, which is a unit of \u003Cstrong\u003EGeorgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts\u003C\/strong\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ELiu and her team brought the Chinese program to the foreground by hosting \u003Cstrong\u003EChinese Day\u003C\/strong\u003E, on Thursday, September 12. This year\u0026rsquo;s event featured the Hisense Company, the most successful television retailer in China. Hisense\u0026rsquo;s U.S. representatives participated on a panel \u0026ldquo;\u003Cstrong\u003ETaste of China\u003C\/strong\u003E,\u0026rdquo; highlighting\u0026nbsp;the experience of studying, interning, and working in China. They also spoke one-on-one with students about internship opportunities in both China and the U.S.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EPanel participants also included the \u003Cstrong\u003EGeorgia Tech Office of International Education Global Internship\u003C\/strong\u003E advisor, alumni of the \u003Cstrong\u003EChina Language for Business and Technology program (LBAT)\u003C\/strong\u003E, and recipients of \u003Cstrong\u003EChinese Government Scholarships\u003C\/strong\u003E. This year\u0026rsquo;s event was the most successful yet, attracting guests from other institutions such as \u003Cstrong\u003EGeorgia State University\u003C\/strong\u003E and \u003Cstrong\u003EEmory University\u003C\/strong\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I enjoyed hearing people\u0026rsquo;s experiences on exchanges to China and what they learned abroad,\u0026quot; said one student. \u0026ldquo;It was very informative to learn the differences between spending a summer abroad and spending an entire academic year from someone that had done both. It made it much easier to begin thinking about my study abroad options in regards to what type of experience abroad I want to have.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EChinese Day is an annual celebration, highlighting the language, culture, and traditions that can be learned through studies at Georgia Institute of Technology.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis year\u0026rsquo;s event opened with a musical performance by the renowned Zhou Family Band, a Chinese folk group, playing traditional Chinese wind and percussion pieces for students, faculty, and staff.
