Students, faculty members, developers, software \nengineers and creative experts, as well as technical and nonprofit \nleaders, are invited to participate. Registration is available on the \nRHoK \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.rhok.org\/events\/rhok-2\/atlanta-georgia-u-s-a\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003Ewebsite\u003C\/a\u003E.\n From 9 a.m. on Saturday to 6 p.m. on Sunday, participants will work their \ntechno-magic at GTRI in concert with others around the world.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ERHoK sessions work with collaborators at Crisis Commons to identify \nimmediate problems, which are then refined further through various small\n groups. These groups work simultaneously across the globe in a \n\u201ccodejam\u201d\u2014a fast-paced competition where each group has a set amount of \ntime to\nsolve the challenges they are given. At the end of the two-day event, a \npanel reviews each hack, with winners walking away with prizes.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ESome hacks created during previous RHoK marathons include \u201cAlertMe,\u201d \nan app that allows emergency messages related to disasters to appear on \nmobile phones or browsers similar to the Emergency Broadcast System \ngraphics for U.S. television; \u201cChasm,\u201d an application that allows \nengineers in the field to enter data into a landslide risk algorithm, \nand \u201cCrysisWiki,\u201d an editable directory of resources that provides \nupdated information on disasters and crises around\nthe world.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ERHoK #2 has five main stages and eight satellite locations, from \nBrazil and Toronto to Kenya and Indonesia. GTRI in Atlanta will join \nChicago, Washington, D.C., and Seattle as the only sites in the United \nStates. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThis is a unique opportunity to connect the critical needs of \nnonprofits who help in times of great need with application developers, \nsystems engineers and other technical and creative experts who wouldn\u2019t \ntypically work on these problems,\u201d said Betsy Plattenburg, GTRI\u2019s \nDirector of Corporate Relations. Local partners include the Southeastern\n Software Association, Hub\nAtlanta and TechBridge, among others. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ERepresentatives from Google, Microsoft, Yahoo! and The World Bank \nstarted RHoK in November 2009 at RHoK #0 in Mountain View, Calif.
