Enjoy a Four-Day Weekend with Fall Break

Georgia Tech’s annual Fall Break provides students with two days off from classes as they prepare to shift from the first half of the semester to the second.

This year, Fall Break is happening Oct. 14–15 and coincides with Columbus Day. Even if students don’t have plans to head out of town, there are still plenty of ways to have fun in the city and take advantage of the extra-long weekend.

Atlanta Pride

Oct. 11–13

The 49th Annual Atlanta Pride Festival will run all weekend long, starting with a kickoff at the Georgia Aquarium on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. There will be events running all weekend long, including performances in Piedmont Park. The Georgia Tech Pride Alliance and LGBTQIA Resource Center will be marching in the Pride Parade, along with the Tech Trolley, on Sunday, Oct. 13. Some events are free to attend, while others require tickets, so check out the official Atlanta Pride website for more information.

Support the Braves in the NLCS (hopefully)

Oct. 11–19

The Atlanta Braves could be on their way to the National League Championship Series (NLCS) for the first time since 2001. First, they'll need to beat the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Division Series on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at SunTrust Park. The NLCS starts on Friday, Oct. 11. Click here to see the entire MLB postseason schedule and here to find NLCS tickets.

Rooftop Coda Yoga

Saturday, Oct. 12

Tech Square’s new Coda building hosts yoga on its roof every Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Get a fantastic view of campus and the city while exercising in the (hopefully) crisp fall air. Visit the official Facebook event page to see how you can gain free entry into a class, which costs $20 per session.

Georgia Tech and the Falcons Are Both in Action

Oct. 12–13

On Saturday, Oct. 12, Georgia Tech will take on Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. On Sunday, the Atlanta Falcons will also be on the road as they travel to Glendale to face off against the Arizona Cardinals. You can watch Georgia Tech at 12:30 p.m. on the new ACC Network and the Falcons at 4:05 p.m. on Fox.

Fall Festival on Ponce

Oct. 12–13

Atlanta’s arts and crafts festival returns to Olmsted Linear Park this weekend. The festival is free to attend and will feature more than 125 artists’ booths, as well as plenty of local food and drink. For more information about the festival and to learn more about supporting local artists, visit festivalonponce.com.

Garden Open at the Botanical Gardens

Monday, Oct. 14

Despite usually being closed on Mondays, the Atlanta Botanical Garden will be open on Columbus Day and will feature the exhibition, Imaginary Worlds: Alice’s Wonderland, through Oct. 27. To celebrate Halloween, scarecrows will decorate the gardens through Nov. 3. Learn more about the garden and everything else it has to offer at atlantabg.org.

Get in the Halloween Spirit

All month long (and then some)

With Halloween just around the corner, there are lots of ways to get in the spooky spirit. Netherworld, metro Atlanta’s largest haunted house, will be open through Nov. 9. The haunts will be open from 7 p.m. until midnight on weekends and from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on weekdays. Six Flags over Georgia will also be celebrating Halloween all month long with its annual Fright Fest. The park will be open the Monday of Fall Break, as well as the weekend leading up to it.

<!-- Disquisition: it's funny how I write these TODOs and then never
revisit them. It's as though the act of writing the thing down frees me
