First-Gen Day Celebration at Georgia Tech

In November 2017, the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) partnered with the Center for First-Generation Student Success to launch the inaugural First-Generation College Celebration. Now an annual event held each year on Nov. 8 to commemorate the anniversary of the Higher Education Act of 1965, it encourages colleges and universities across the country to celebrate the successes of first-generation students, faculty, and staff.

This year we will celebrate first-gen students at Georgia Tech with a sticker awareness campaign and interactive tabling event hosted by the Office of Parent and Family Programs, New Student and Transition Programs, STAR, the Office of Undergraduate Admission, and the First-Generation Student Organization. The event will take place on Tech Walkway on Friday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We encourage you to stop by — there will be stickers for first-generation students, faculty, and first-gen advocates. We welcome the support of the entire Tech community in celebrating first-generation students, understanding the systemic challenges they face, and helping them thrive.

Mark your calendars and wear your stickers proudly!
