{"628947":{"#nid":"628947","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Georgia Tech Launches VEEAM as a Backup Service","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Office of information Technology (OIT) has announced the\u0026nbsp;launch\u0026nbsp;of VEEAM\u0026nbsp;as\u0026nbsp;the\u0026nbsp;new central IT system backup and migration solution for campus. This\u0026nbsp;solution was chosen as part of the\u0026nbsp;build\u0026nbsp;out of Coda\u0026nbsp;as a center for innovation as well as the new data center space to support IT services on campus.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EPrior to VEEAM, OIT has used Enterprise Backup Service (EBS) Networker and Bacula as backup solutions. For migration of systems, OIT has used VMware\u0026#39;s vCenter solution.\u0026nbsp; VEEAM\u0026nbsp;allows for migration and backups all in one, which is why it became the solution of choice as new systems are built or migrated into Coda.\u0026nbsp;Current backup solutions such as Bacula or EBS Networker will remain in place for any existing systems until they are fully transitioned to VEEAM. Other benefits of VEEAM include instant VM recovery and its ability to work with a virtual, physical, or cloud environment.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOther key points for Veeam as a backup service:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EThe service is available for OIT and all of campus including Coda.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ESelf-service is not available at this time.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EThe service will be rolled out in phases. For Phase I, November:\r\n\t\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\t\u003Cli\u003EBackups and Restores are supported for OIT Managed and OIT Unmanaged Windows Physical and Virtual Machines\r\n\t\t\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\t\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cem\u003EReplication is not supported for Windows Physical Machines but is supported for Windows VIrtual Machines\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\t\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\t\t\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\t\u003Cli\u003EBackups and Restores are supported for OIT Managed and OIT Unmanaged Linux Physical and Virtual Machine\u0026#39;s\r\n\t\t\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\t\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cem\u003EReplication is not supported for Linux Physical Machines but is supported for Linux Virtual Machines\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\t\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\t\t\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\t\u003Cli\u003EThe back up of Hyper-V hosts themselves is not supported at this time\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\t\u003Cli\u003EThe backup of virtual machine guests that reside on a Hyper-V host is not supported at this time\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\t\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ECross restores and same server restores are available at this time.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EIn order to request backups, restores, or changes to backups, please use the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/gatech.service-now.com\/technology?id=sc_category\u0026amp;sys_id=e1c03d16dbc84890fc9efe8d0f9619bc\u0022\u003EServiceNow\u003C\/a\u003E page and click \u0026ldquo;Enterprise Backup Request Form\u0026rdquo; under Getting Started\/Requirements.
