Anderson Center for Sustainable Business, the Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship presents a Collaborative Impact event featuring\u0026nbsp;\u0026Aacute;ngel Cabrera.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOn Sept. 1, 2019, \u0026Aacute;ngel Cabrera became the 12th president of the Georgia Institute of Technology. Cabrera came to Georgia Tech after serving for seven years as president of George Mason University (GMU) in Fairfax, Virginia.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EUnder his leadership, George Mason accounted for more than half of all enrollment growth in Virginia, increased student outcomes, and joined the top tier of research universities in the Carnegie Classification. The university established partnerships to expand online programs and international recruitment and built several new facilities. Philanthropic contributions more than doubled. In 2018, it was named by Forbes as one of America\u0026rsquo;s best midsize employers.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFrom 2004 to 2012, Cabrera served as president at Thunderbird School of Global Management, now part of Arizona State University. Prior to that, he was dean of IE Business School in Madrid. As a business educator, Cabrera has played a key role in advancing professional ethics, internationalization, and corporate social responsibility. As a senior advisor to the United Nations Global Compact, in 2007 he was the lead author of the \u0026ldquo;Principles for Responsible Management Education,\u0026rdquo; now adopted by more than 700 schools around the world.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECabrera\u0026rsquo;s research has been published in leading academic journals. He has been quoted by leading global media, including\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EThe Economist\u003C\/em\u003E, BBC, CNN, CNBC,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EEl Pa\u0026iacute;s\u003C\/em\u003E,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EForbes\u003C\/em\u003E,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EThe International Herald Tribune\u003C\/em\u003E, and\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EThe New York Times\u003C\/em\u003E. His op-eds have been published by\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EThe Washington Post\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;and the international press, and he has appeared on NPR programs and\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EPBS NewsHour\u003C\/em\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHe\u0026rsquo;s been named a \u0026ldquo;Young Global Leader\u0026rdquo; by the World Economic Forum, a \u0026ldquo;Star of Europe\u0026rdquo; by\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EBusinessweek\u003C\/em\u003E, \u0026ldquo;Henry Crown Fellow\u0026rdquo; by the Aspen Institute, and \u0026ldquo;Great Immigrant\u0026rdquo; by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. He has received honorary degrees from Miami Dade College and Universidad Polit\u0026eacute;cnica of Madrid.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECabrera serves on the boards of the Atlanta Committee for Progress, the National Geographic Society,\u0026nbsp;the Bankinter Foundation for Innovation, and Inovio, a publicly traded biotech company. For most of the past decade, he has served on the Georgia Tech Advisory Board, including a stint as its chair.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECabrera earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Georgia Tech, which he attended as a Fulbright Scholar. He also holds a telecommunications engineering degree (B.S. and M.S. in computer and electrical engineering) from Universidad Polit\u0026eacute;cnica de Madrid.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHe is married to management scholar and Georgia Tech classmate\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/cabrerainsights.com\/?page_id=2\u0022\u003EElizabeth\u003C\/a\u003E. Their son Alex is a recent Georgia Tech graduate and currently a Ph.D. student at Carnegie Mellon University. Their daughter Emilia is a rising junior at Harvard University.
