“Faculty should consider becoming involved with faculty governance in order to have a say in rules and policies that affect every aspect of their work,” said Craig Tovey, a professor in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. Tovey, who has served in several faculty governance roles since the early ’90s, is currently vice chair of the Faculty Executive Board and chair of the Nominations Committee.

“You will learn Tech’s policies and the history behind them,” he said. “Some rules will no longer annoy you — because you will understand why they exist. And you will become much more able to detect unfairness and to intervene appropriately.”

Vacancies are available on the Faculty Standing Committees and the Academic Faculty Standing Committees.

To nominate another faculty member, or yourself, email nominations2020@lists.gatech.edu before Feb. 21 with suggestions or nominations to any of the committees. The Faculty Nominations Committee will attempt to honor requests for particular committees, but some elections are constrained by requirements associated with particular seats, such as membership in a particular college, and balancing campus representation on all committees. Those selected by the Faculty Nominations Committee will be notified. Those selected by the faculty will serve from August 2020 through August 2023.
