{"635157":{"#nid":"635157","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Laura Taylor Selected as Fellow by Association of Environmental and Resource Economists","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EBy Michael Pearson\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE) has selected School of Economics Chair Laura Taylor as a fellow for her important research contributions and leadership in the field.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I\u0026rsquo;m very touched by this honor, and by the warm wishes from friends and colleagues from around the world,\u0026rdquo; \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/taylor_2\u0022\u003ETaylor\u003C\/a\u003E said. \u0026ldquo;I feel privileged to have such a fulfilling career and so many wonderful friends, colleagues, and students.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/oliver_3\u0022\u003EMatt Oliver\u003C\/a\u003E, an associate professor in the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/econ.gatech.edu\u0022\u003ESchool of Economics\u003C\/a\u003E, said the award confirms Taylor\u0026rsquo;s \u0026ldquo;superstar\u0026rdquo; status in the field.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;With this honor, she joins an elite list of environmental and resource economists that includes such distinguished names as Michael Greenstone, Robert Pindyck, and recent Nobel laureate William Nordhaus,\u0026rdquo; Oliver said.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/aere.org\u0022\u003EAERE\u003C\/a\u003E fellows are selected for outstanding contributions to the advancement of environmental and resource economics. The association cited Taylor\u0026rsquo;s \u0026ldquo;foundational contributions in stated preference methods and using VSL (Value of a Statistical Life) estimates in policy contexts.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe association cited one nominator who described the enormous influence of Taylor\u0026rsquo;s work on \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/news-events\/stories\/2019\/4\/giving-value-statistical-life-firmer-foundation-new\/621067\u0022\u003EVSL estimates\u003C\/a\u003E \u0026mdash; a crucial measure in many environmental regulations.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Everything that EPA staff did in their assessment of the new empirical research followed the guidance offered in Taylor\u0026rsquo;s paper, and EPA is now routinely using [these ideas] to integrate new empirical information into the policy evaluation process,\u0026rdquo; wrote the nominator, who was not identified by the association. \u0026ldquo;It is difficult to identify another contribution in the past two decades that has had an equivalent impact on the practice of benefit-cost analysis for environmental regulations.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe association also cited Taylor\u0026rsquo;s leadership.\u003Cem\u003E \u003C\/em\u003ETaylor has served as an AERE board member, vice president, and president, and helped organize the group\u0026rsquo;s first annual conference in 2011.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;While Laura\u0026rsquo;s research is outstanding, her accomplishments in service and leadership are even more remarkable,\u0026rdquo; the association noted in its award announcement.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETaylor joined the School of Economics in 2018.
