Kate Pride Brown and Todd Michney Named Class of 1969 Teaching Fellows

Kate Pride Brown and Todd Michney, both assistant professor in the School of History and Sociology, have been named to the 2021-22 cohort of the Class of 1969 Teaching Fellows.

A competitive program, the fellowships support assistant professors to work on “reflective teaching using insights from evidence-based teaching research and exposure to innovative teaching methods.” Details on the program are available here.

Following Brown and Michney’s awards, and also the announcement of HSOC Professor Doug Flamming’s 2020 Hesburgh Award Teaching Fellowship, School Chair Eric Schatzberg said, “I continue to be impressed with HSOC faculty’s dedication to the teaching at the highest level.”

Kate Pride Brown is a sociologist whose research focuses upon power relationships and their impact on the natural world. Brown has previously been recognized for teaching with a 2020 CTL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award.

Among other honors, she has received a Fulbright Fellowship, a grant from the Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy, and a Critical Language Scholarship from the U.S. Department of State. Currently, she is examining financialization and the impact this change is having upon post-carbon energy development projects.
