The South has the highest incarceration rate in the US and in Georgia, 61.6% of the prison population is African-American (while making up only 31.5% of the state\u0026rsquo;s population).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EJoin us for a virtual panel hosting\u0026nbsp;Senator Tonya Anderson (D), Representative Houston Gaines (R),\u0026nbsp;Executive Director of Georgia Justice Project (GJP), Doug Ammar, and\u0026nbsp;moderator,\u0026nbsp;Lisa McGahan (Policy Director, GJP) as they discuss how bipartisan efforts led to the newly adopted Second Chance expungement bill in Georgia.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EGeorgia Justice Project\u003C\/strong\u003E is\u0026nbsp;a nonprofit focused on\u0026nbsp;strengthening Georgia\u0026#39;s communities by demonstrating a better way to represent and support individuals in the criminal justice system,\u0026nbsp;reducing\u0026nbsp;the number of individuals under correctional\u0026nbsp;control in Georgia and all the ensuing barriers to reentry. \u0026nbsp;The\u0026nbsp;Georgia\u0026nbsp;Justice Project promotes innovative change through direct legal representation, policy advocacy, education, and coalition building.\u0026nbsp;This year, GJP successfully\u0026nbsp;brought together 70\u0026nbsp;partner organizations through the Second\u0026nbsp;Chance campaign to support expanding expungement in Georgia.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESenator Tonya Anderson\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;was elected to the State Senate to represent Georgia\u0026rsquo;s 43rd District in 2016. She serves as the Vice Chair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC), and serves as Secretary of the Retirement Committee. She is also a member of the Public Safety, Special Judiciary, and Veterans, Military, and Homeland Security Committees. Senator Anderson retired in 2012 from the United States Air Force Reserve after more than 21 honorable years of service and continues to volunteer and advocate for veterans\u0026rsquo; services.
