{"638770":{"#nid":"638770","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Banner Production Database Access Restricted","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Data Security Task Force and\u0026nbsp;Banner\u0026nbsp;team continues to\u0026nbsp;strengthen the security of protected student data by\u0026nbsp;ensuring that direct (SQL) access to\u0026nbsp;the\u0026nbsp;Banner production database\u0026nbsp;is limited to verified users, departments, and extended systems.\u0026nbsp;The users, departments, and extended systems\u0026nbsp;identified through previous surveys\u0026nbsp;will maintain access.\u0026nbsp;This multi-phase process began\u0026nbsp;in September and continues throughout November.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMoving forward, non-registered\u0026nbsp;users\u0026nbsp;or systems\u0026nbsp;will not be able run\u0026nbsp;direct\u0026nbsp;queries\u0026nbsp;against\u0026nbsp;the\u0026nbsp;Banner\u0026nbsp;database.\u0026nbsp;End-users who need to maintain direct access to the\u0026nbsp;Banner\u0026nbsp;production database for day-to-day use\u0026nbsp;are invited to pilot a two-factor authenticated virtual desktop (VDI) solution to access\u0026nbsp;Banner\u0026nbsp;until mid-October. This VDI-based solution will enable use of a limited set of tools to maintain current business needs (connect to the\u0026nbsp;Banner\u0026nbsp;database to execute SQL queries and to\u0026nbsp;Banner\u0026nbsp;Jobsub servers to initiate\u0026nbsp;Banner\u0026nbsp;Jobs). In mid-October, all users with direct access to the production database will\u0026nbsp;be expected to\u0026nbsp;transition to solely leverage the VDI solution.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EPlease note that Banner 9 Admin Pages,\u0026nbsp;OSCAR, and SSH access, will not be impacted by this change.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ETimeline\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Col\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ESept. 16: Direct access to\u0026nbsp;Banner\u0026nbsp;production database removed from all users, departments, and extended systems not registered, unless otherwise noted.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ESeptember\u0026nbsp;to Mid-October: VDI pilot\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EMid-October (exact date to be determined): \u0026nbsp;All users with direct SQL access to the production database will\u0026nbsp;be expected to\u0026nbsp;transition to solely leverage the VDI solution.
