Fall 2020 Convergence Innovation Competition Accepting Entries

The Georgia Tech Convergence Innovation Competition (CIC) (cic.gatech.edu) has shifted to a virtual format for Fall 2020. This bi-annual competition is dedicated to helping students create and showcase innovative and viable products and experiences with the support of campus and industry resources and guidance.

CIC Convergence Areas
The fall 2020 competition will focus on convergence areas drawn from the Institute for People and Technology’s research pillars and values around inclusive innovation, the Georgia Tech strategic plan and mission, the and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development goals.

You can find a helpful overview of the competition’s convergence area descriptions here: http://cic.gatech.edu/fall-2020/areas

The competition organizers are particularly interested in the intersections of the convergence areas (i.e. projects that combine the focus on health and well-being with issues of environmental justice and poverty). This is a shift from the previous category model. The new convergence areas encourage competition participants to adapt and focus their creativity in response to current local, national, and global concerns.

Project Entry Submission
Students must submit competition entries (http://cic.gatech.edu/submission) by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 8. If you have a question about the competition including how to best pitch your idea, send an email to RNOC (rnoc-lab-staff@lists.gatech.edu).

The two-part judging process will include a preliminary review of submission materials the week of November 10th. Selected finalists will be invited to demonstrate their projects and field questions from judges in a second round before winners are announced November 20th.

Students from all majors at any level and from all campuses are encouraged to participate. Best of luck to all of the participants, and thanks to all of this year’s judges.
